Will EMI/SI Problems Get Worse?

We think so, and here's why. Electronics are proliferating, plus system speeds are increasing while electronic devices are shrinking. This adds up to a massive electronic pollution problem...more sources of noise at higher levels, with lower levels of resistance to this noise.

If highway speed limits had increased from 55 MPH to 550 MPH in the past decade, the carnage would be horrible. This is precisely what has happened in the electronics world, as system speeds have increased by at least an order of magnitude in the past ten years. No wonder we have problems!

No modern electronic system is immune from EMI effects. Noisy systems interfere with nearby television or communications systems. At the same time, systems are susceptible to external effects such as electrostatic discharge, lightning, or licensed radio transmitters. Even internal jamming occurs due to crosstalk, ground bounce, and power disturbance.

The best approach is to design for EMI, right from the start. At the design stage, the solutions are usually inexpensive and easy to implement. At Kimmel Gerke Associates, we'll help guide you from the printed circuit board and packaging through prototyping and final testing. We'll help you do it right the first time. You'll save money, save time, and maybe even save customers.

But if you're already in trouble with EMI, give us a call. We'll help you diagnose your problem, and we'll prescribe some fixes. From designs to disasters, we're ready to give you a helping hand with your EMI problems.
